International hospitality brand Bob W has made its Swedish debut with the opening of a new apartment hotel at Kammakargatan 5 in Stockholm’s Norrmalm district. Housed inside a renovated 1965 brutalist building, the property bridges mid-20th-century architecture with a bold, contemporary spirit, offering a digital-first guest experience for both short- and long-term stays.
Designing With the Past and Future in Mind
The interiors were crafted by Note Design Studio co-founders Johannes Karlström and Jesper Mellgren, who sought to respect the building’s original brutalist character while infusing it with the vibrancy of modern Stockholm.
The result is a carefully layered narrative: monochromatic corridors reflect the austere 1960s exterior, while suites and common areas burst with saturated tones, vintage furnishings, and bespoke detailing. Each design element nods to the surrounding district’s energetic restaurant culture and creative urban identity.
Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability guided the renovation, with the architects preserving as many original components of the structure as possible. Interventions were made only where necessary, striking a balance between cost efficiency and environmental responsibility. The mix of preserved brutalist bones and playful modern interiors transforms the hotel into a story of Stockholm’s ongoing evolution.
