Chris Plank Brings a Broader View to South Bay Real Estate
Written by Ethan M. Stone
With nearly four decades of real estate experience, Chris Plank combines market expertise, brokerage leadership, entrepreneurship, and policy insight for clients in Manhattan Beach and beyond.
Chris Plank did not enter real estate with a grand plan. In 1989, while attending college and playing baseball, he took a part-time opportunity through a co-worker’s connection. What began as a side job became a 37-year career rooted in the South Bay, where he has built deep knowledge of Manhattan Beach and the surrounding coastal markets.
Today, Chris serves as Partner and Broker Associate at Pacifica Properties Group, a luxury boutique brokerage located in his home town of Manhattan Beach, California. His career has carried him through sales, office leadership, brokerage management, escrow, and legislative advocacy, giving him a perspective shaped by both daily transactions and the larger forces affecting California housing.
That range matters in a market where buyers and sellers often face more than pricing questions. In coastal real estate, local knowledge, transaction strategy, timing, and policy awareness can all influence a client’s next move.
From Agent to Brokerage Leader
Chris’s early career included an initial setback with his first real estate venture. Still, that experience led him to a local startup brokerage in Manhattan Beach and helped establish the foundation for his long-term career. He later joined Shorewood Realtors, where he spent 25 years and became one of the company’s key leadership figures. At Shorewood, he co-managed what became the most productive real estate office in the South Bay.
He also served as Managing Broker for eight offices, overseeing 275 agents. Those roles required more than sales ability. They called for operational judgment, coaching, problem-solving, and the ability to keep teams focused in a competitive market.
Chris’s leadership continued during Shorewood’s transition to Sotheby’s International Realty, where he eventually served as Broker of Record. For clients, that background translates into practical guidance informed by years of managing complex transactions, agent performance, and office-level decisions.
Building a Boutique Firm
In 2021, Chris co-founded Pacifica Properties Group with three experienced agents he had worked with for years. The firm was created as a luxury boutique brokerage focused on personalized service in the Manhattan Beach market. The move reflected Chris’s entrepreneurial approach to real estate. After decades in established brokerage environments, he helped build a company focused on close client relationships, local expertise, and experienced representation.
Plank also co-founded Waterfront Escrow, expanding his ability to support clients through another key part of the transaction process. That combination of brokerage and escrow experience gives him a clearer understanding of how deals move from first conversation to closing table.
Policy Insight in a Changing Market
Chris’s work extends beyond brokerage. As State Political Coordinator at his local association of realtors, he works with California Senator Ben Allen and other Assembly members to discuss and lobby real estate bills. The role gives him a direct view of how legislative decisions affect buyers, sellers, agents, and the broader housing market. That policy perspective distinguishes Chris’s work. Real estate decisions are often shaped by rules that clients may not initially see, from housing legislation to regulations governing ownership, development, and sales. Plank’s involvement allows him to address both the transaction in front of a client and the policy environment surrounding it.
A Practical Kind of Experience
After nearly four decades in real estate, Chris’s value lies in the combination of roles he has held. He understands the pace of the South Bay market, the pressures agents face, the details that can affect a transaction, and the legislative questions shaping California real estate. As Partner and Broker Associate at Pacifica Properties Group, Plank brings clients a grounded, broad-based perspective. For buyers and sellers in Manhattan Beach and surrounding coastal communities, that means working with someone who has spent his career studying the market from nearly every angle.
