Sarah Tomlinson Brings a Luxury Retail Eye to Real Estate
Written by Will Jones
The former Neiman Marcus buyer applies her experience in presentation, negotiation, and personalized service to Central Florida’s luxury housing market.
A luxury home and a designer collection may appear to belong to different worlds, but both depend on many of the same principles. Quality must be recognized. Presentation must feel considered. The right product must reach the right buyer, and every detail shapes how that product is perceived.
Sarah Tomlinson understood those principles long before entering real estate. As a former Neiman Marcus buyer, national wholesale representative, and co-founder of Mix Showroom Dallas, she built her career around serving sophisticated consumers and positioning premium goods. When Tomlinson became a real estate agent in 2020, she was not abandoning that experience. She was applying it to a new kind of purchase.
Learning What Luxury Buyers Notice
After earning her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, Tomlinson began working as a buyer for Neiman Marcus in Dallas. The role required her to evaluate craftsmanship, quality, market positioning, and the preferences of affluent customers. That work taught her to look beyond surface appeal. A successful buyer must understand why one product commands attention while another gets overlooked, even when both appear attractive at first glance. The answer often lies in small distinctions, from construction and materials to presentation and timing.
Tomlinson later represented women’s apparel and jewelry brands through national wholesale sales. Working with retailers across the country strengthened her negotiation skills and gave her further insight into buyer behavior, merchandising, and long-term relationship management.
In 2022, Tomlinson brought those experiences together as a co-founder of Mix Showroom Dallas, a contemporary luxury fashion showroom serving boutiques, hotels, and spas. Her continued involvement in the business reflects an entrepreneurial career grounded in sales, brand development, and client service.
Turning a Disruption Into a New Direction
When the COVID-19 pandemic halted much of the in-person fashion business in 2020, Tomlinson earned her real estate license and joined Compass Florida. The transition offered a practical way to use skills she had already developed. Luxury real estate, like high-end retail, requires an understanding of presentation, negotiation, discretion, and individual preferences. Clients expect their advisor to remain responsive, prepared, and attentive throughout a purchase or sale that may carry both financial and emotional weight.
Since entering the industry, Tomlinson has closed over $30million in reported residential sales volume, according to her Compass agent profile. Her transaction history includes several properties priced between approximately $1.6 million and $2.1 million in Winter Park and nearby communities.
Presenting a Home With Purpose
Tomlinson’s fashion background is especially visible in the way she approaches listings. Years spent sourcing and selling luxury goods gave her a trained eye for how design, styling, and visual presentation affect perceived value. In practice, that perspective informs decisions involving staging, photography, marketing, and the overall positioning of a property. Tomlinson considers how a home will appear to prospective buyers, which features deserve emphasis, and how the listing can speak clearly to its intended audience.
That same attention extends to buyers. Rather than presenting every available property, Tomlinson can narrow the search around a client’s priorities, preferences, and lifestyle. Her wholesale experience also supports her work at the negotiating table, where careful communication and an understanding of both parties can shape the progress of a deal.
Pairing Technology With Personal Attention
Based in Maitland, Tomlinson serves clients across Winter Park, College Park, Baldwin Park, Maitland, Windermere, Lake Mary, Heathrow, Longwood, and surrounding Central Florida communities.Through Compass, Tomlinson uses brokerage data, marketing resources, and technology while maintaining the personal attention associated with luxury retail. The tools support her work, but the client relationship remains central.
For Tomlinson, real estate represents a continuation of the same professional focus that shaped her fashion career: understanding what people value, presenting premium products thoughtfully, and managing important decisions with care.
